New work: How to create sitemap using Dreamweaver CS3

User Experience Designers struggle to create information architecture diagrams using various tools. I have personally used Microsoft Visio and it takes a lot of time to create one. Most of the time it takes to arrange the lines and join the boxes. I was wondering for a good tool that i can use to create information architecture. See the images below you can make out the pain it takes to join the lines, grab each element and move it to the canvas.

Dream weaver a great tool for Information Architecture Design – Site map

Let me show you how we can use dream weaver to create site-maps. Let us get going and make a site map.

Step 1: Start the Dream weaver program and open the desired site.

Step 2: In the Site box, choose Site Map. Click create a “new site”. Enter the site name and click next

Enter the Site name

Step 3: Follow the steps as shown below in the image below. Its easy just have a look and follow it.

Follow the steps as shown in the image

Step 4: Once new site is created, you will see a pop up link on the right hand side of Dream weaver. Click on it and a new screen will be shown.

Step 5: In the new window there will be two sections. On the left hand side it will be the site navigation, on the right hand side it will have all the files. Click on the site folder and create a file.

Make the first file as - Set as home page via right click

Step 6: Name this file as home page. Right click on it and “set as home page”. Once you have done that  you can see it on the site navigation site on the left. Now you can create more pages and make the site map.

Information Architecture Design for a new client.

It saves a lot of time, there is no need to draw arrows and lines to connect the pages. It is so easy to work with. I created information architecture design for a client recently.

Quick controls – You can cut and paste pages from one branch to other.
